The Shoots and the Layouts
All the pages, the behind the scenes, and the stuff from the cutting room floor...
Monster Jam
“It's a bunch of trucks with big tires
and some dirt jumps...”
Not quite. It's a meticulously orchestrated feat of engineering and construction that takes thousands of cubic yards of dirt, days of preparation, and a down-to-the-last-bolt level of organization to pack it all up and move the show to the next town. Road & Track went behind the scenes, and I shot it every step of the way.
Wales Rally GB
To mark the 20th anniversary of Colin McRae’s heroic WRC championship, Subaru sent seven-time Rally America champion David Higgins back home to Britain to compete in a new production-class WRX STI. I was fortunate enough to be able to grab my camera, head for Wales, and check ”rally” off my bucket list. I shot the race and wrote this story for the March/April 2016 issue of Road & Track.
Major League Baseball
While cars and motorsport have been my focus of late, my first love in sports will always be baseball. Working with publishing clients to produce fantasy sports titles and other sports-themed SIPs, I’ve had the thrill of a lifetime covering major league games from the field as a photographer. Here are a few of my favorite shots…
24 Hours of Le Mans
In 2016, Ford returned to Le Mans on the 50th Anniversary of their historic triumph over Ferrari with their new Ford GT. I accompanied scribe Sam Smith to France to photograph the race (and Sam) for the duration of the 24-hour event.
Ferrari 488 Pista in Italy
For Road & Track's "Adventure Issue" we wanted to go beyond the typical first drive of the latest Ferrari. We took the 488 Pista out of Maranello and made a whirlwind tour of Northern Italy. Skirting the edge of the Dolomites and cruising along the shores of Lake Garda, we discovered why Ferrari continues to be the pride of Italy. I collaborated with photographer Dean Smith and writer Chris Chilton to produce this cover story for the September 2018 issue.
Revs Institute
The car nut's field trip of dreams. The Revs Institute in Naples, Florida is home to of one of the world's greatest car collections. Photographer DW Burnett and I got to spend the day wandering the gallery floor, poking around the restoration shop and the extensive archives and library. The two of us brought back far more imagery than this feature could possibly hold, and we barely scratched the surface of the collection.
College Hoops
Being raised in New England means Big East Basketball is in your blood. The Big East as it existed when I was young no longer exists, and that’s a shame. Luckily I now live right in the heart of Big Ten country, where college basketball has an even more storied history…
Radwood
Like Goodwood—but instead of stuffy tweed, million-dollar cars from the post-war glory days, and a country club track—it’s an impromptu celebration of “rad” ’80s and ’90s cars and culture. Which means awesome machines and awful hair and wardrobe…
